Ohio National Guard troops assisted with weekly food distribution Tuesday at the St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Russells Point. The mobile pantry made possible by the Second Harvest Food Bank, which sets up in Logan County at least six times a months at locations in Russells Point and Bellefontaine. Last year, 627,500 pounds of food in Logan County, which amounts to more than 500,000 meals, according to information from the United Way of Logan County. Normal distribution days can see about 100 people, but the need was greater still on Tuesday as cars waited in the church parking lot in a line that stretched out to the street. Those collecting food were instructed to stay in their car as part of ongoing social distancing efforts. Often, volunteers help to pass out food, but Ohio National Guard troops have been tasked with the job in the wake of stay-at-home orders from the state of Ohio. The national guard worked efficiently to load up canned fruits and vegeatables, as well as other items. Cars were moved through quickly and without incident, and many residents expressed gratitude to the guardswoman and men as they pulled away.
