Kalob M. Douglas, 21, of Kenton, was charged Saturday with felony possession of drugs; possession of drug paraphernalia; and operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He also was issued traffic citations for driving on a curb, a stop sign violation, driving too slowly, a marked lanes violation, driving under license forfeiture and no operator’s license.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol at 3:45 a.m. observed Douglas in an eastbound pickup truck driving about 10 mph under the posted 25-mph limit on Chillicothe Avenue near the five-point intersection with Eastern Avenue and Ludlow Road.
Douglas did not fully stop at the intersected and continued slowly eastward on Eastern. The officer noted he could see Douglas’ reflection in the driver’s mirror and the motorist was wearing sunglasses.
The officer observed multiple violations in which Douglas drove with the pickup over the painted centerlines of the roadways as he continued to Hayes Street and then northbound.
A traffic stop was initiated and Douglas turned into Speedway, 600 E. Sandusky Ave., but missed the driveway and drove over a curb. He parked haphazardly several feet from the front sidewalk of the business.
Field sobriety tests indicated Douglas was under the influence and he was taken into custody.
He asked the officer to retrieve his cellular phone from his pickup and secure his pickup. The officer found a straw with white residue on the floor board. A probable cause search found a pouch in the driver’s door panel with a glass pipe for consuming methamphetamine and a pill bottle containing the drug.
He reportedly admitted abusing drugs shortly before the traffic stop.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
• Vincent M. Kelly, 54, of Clarksville, Tenn., was charged Sunday with possession of drug paraphernalia after a 2:10 a.m. traffic stop Sunday.
An officer on patrol observed Kelly drive northbound on Main Street from a right-only lane at Auburn Avenue. Upon contact, the officer noted an odor of burnt marijuana.
A probable cause search found a small plastic bag, a black digital scale and a razor blade all with white powdery residue.
Kelly initially denied ownership but admitted the items were his when the officer asked if they items belonged to his female passenger who was accompanied by her young daughter.
He was lodged in jail.
• Micah J. Lawrence, 43, of 400 West St., Apt. 4, was charged April 10 with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
At 7:20 p.m., an off-duty officer contacted dispatchers to report the driver of a silver sedan was driving over the center line, off the roadway and nearly caused head-on collisions with other motorists while southbound on U.S. Route 68 north of Bellefontaine.
The off-duty officer followed the car to McDonalds, 1127 N. Main St., and watched as Lawrence and his girlfriend, Angela Legg, also of 400 West St., Apt. 4, exited the park car. The two then walked to Burger King, 1135 N. Main.
On duty officers arrived and confronted the couple as they were at the counter ordering food. Officers noted an odor of alcohol while talking to both and escorted Lawrence out of the restaurant for field sobriety testing after he acknowledged he was the driver of the car.
Tests indicated he was impaired by alcohol. He was given three chances to provide a breathalyzer sample but he would not provide adequate samples but the partial readings were more than 0.2.
Officers noted he has two prior OVI convictions: one in 2001 and another in 2013.
He was released to his mother.
