Noah J.R. Jackson, 22, of 617 Cooper Ave., was charged Monday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs after a 3:45 a.m. traffic stop.
He also was issued traffic citations for speeding, failure to control, a marked lanes violation and stopping after a crash.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department was on stationary patrol at Blue Jacket Park and observed northbound sport utility vehicle on Ludlow Road traveling at a very rate of speed as it approached Lake Avenue. The officer observed radar reading in the 90-mph range and was able to lock a reading of 74 mph as the SUV traveled in a 35-mph zone.
As the SUV passed, the officer observed it straddling the center double-yellow line. He followed and observed more lane violations prior to initiating a traffic stop after turning from Ludlow onto Cooper Avenue.
Upon contact, the officer detected an odor of alcohol while talking with Jackson. The motorist also had bloodshot, glossy eyes and droopy eyelids, the officer reported.
Field sobriety tests indicated he was impaired and he was taken into custody.
As the officer was examining the SUV, he found fresh damage to the entire driver’s side of the vehicle. It appeared to be consistent with hitting a galvanized steel guardrail.
Jackson, who claimed he had been in Marysville, was unable to say where the crash occurred.
He transported to the police department offices where a breathalyzer sample of 0.102 was collected in a test. He was released to his mother.
