Miranda J. Varney, 26, of 11070 County Road 2, West Mansfield, was charged Aug. 1 with child endangering and operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs after a 5:35 p.m. traffic stop.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were called to the Logan County Public Library, 220 N. Main St., and met with Courtney Bruner.
Bruner had traveled from Port Jefferson with her five-year-old step-daughter for a supervised two-hour visit with Varney, the girl’s birth mother.
Varney arrived driving a pickup truck and stumbled from it after she parked, Bruner reported. The suspect retrieved her nine-month-old daughter from the passenger side and went inside the library.
She was found with the girls inside sitting on the floor. Officers reported a strong odor of alcohol as she spoke with them and that her eyes were bloodshot and glossy.
She was escorted outside for field sobriety tests. Those tests indicated she was under the influence of alcohol while her breathalyzer sample was recorded at .161.
Varney was released to the father of her youngest daughter, who came to the city to take custody of the child.
Man held on warrants
Dominic Velez-Maher, 20, of Ostrander, was arrested Aug. 3 on warrants for domestic violence, disorderly conduct and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
The charges were listed in an alert issued by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers located the suspect in a car in the parking lot of CVS, 143 E. Sandusky Ave., around 1:20 a.m. after a clerk at Madriver Marathon, 200 E. Sandusky Ave., reported the suspect drove from the station without turning on the car’s headlights.
Velez-Maher allegedly drove off with his sister’s car without her permission.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
