David L. Martin, 77, of 808 N. Main St., was charged Friday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and issue traffic citation for an improper turn.
Shortly after 11:25 p.m., an officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department was on patrol and observed Martin turn north from eastbound Water Avenue onto Main Street.
Martin’s car traveled into the southbound lanes before he corrected and drove into the northbound lane.
The officer observed Martin weaving within the lane and tried to initiate a traffic stop south of Chillicothe Avenue. Martin continued on and turned onto east Columbus Avenue before stopping.
Upon contact, the officer detected an odor of alcohol and noted the motorist appeared to be sluggish. Field sobriety tests indicated Martin was impaired by alcohol and he was taken into custody.
His breathalyzer sample was 0.017 well below the legal limit. Officers then learned Martin had consumed anti-depressant medication. He willingly provided a urine sample for laboratory testing.
He was released to a sober friend.
Intoxicated man lodged
Virgil A. Hinkle, 58, at large, was charged at 12:05 a.m. Sunday with public intoxication. He was at Heather Theis’ 1100 Heritage Court residence and would not leave.
He was unable to find anyone to take him in for the night so officers arrested him and lodged him in jail.
City resident admits to riding snowmobile
Norman McClain Jr., 26, of 409 Garfield Ave., was charged Saturday with criminal damaging and driving on sidewalks. He was found near his residence with three snowmobile and three other people.
He admitted to using his snowmobile to tow a disabled snowmobile back to the location. He also acknowledged traveling onto a sidewalk and through a yard and flower bed at 129 Plumvalley St.
Officers informed him the yard and bed were damaged and he said he would work to repair the damage.
Woman’s vehicle targeted during work
Aisha C. Craig of DeGraff reported Saturday a catalytic convertor was cut from her sport utility vehicle while parked at 30 Hunter Place while she was at work Friday between 1:45 and 7 p.m.
