Brandon J. Moore, 25, of Columbus, was charged Saturday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and improper handling of firearms. He also was issued traffic citations for a marked lanes violation, an improper turn and a stop light violation.
At 2:30 a.m., an officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol observed an eastbound car stopped at Columbus Avenue and Main Street across the center double-yellow line facing southbound.
The officer maneuvered his southbound cruiser off of Detroit Street through alleyways to Columbus and the stopped vehicle. It remained crooked across the double-yellow sitting at a green light. Moore was inside and revved the engine but the car would no move as it was in park.
He shifted out of park and then turned northbound onto Main crossing into the southbound lane before drifting to the right and into the parking stalls along the northbound lane. He reportedly committed more marked lane violations before a traffic stop was initiated at Sandusky Avenue and Madriver Street.
The officer noted Moore appeared to be intoxicated and ordered him out of the car.
Field sobriety tests were conducted by stopped after just the initial tests.
A loaded 9mm handgun was found under the driver’s seat after Moore acknowledged he had a gun in the vehicle.
He was lodged in Logan County Jail.
Man lodged for damaging lawn mower, house
John L. Prather, 60, of 402 E. Columbus Ave., was charged Saturday with criminal damaging and theft after officers investigated an Aug. 24 complaint that Prather had damaged the headlights of a lawnmower at 224 Plumvalley St. and kicked in a door to the residence.
Prather was located at his residence, arrested and lodged in jail.
Residents report vandalism
Vera Wilson and Robert Kamau told officers they were inside their 318 Newell St. residence at 10 p.m. when they heard someone kick the rear storm door. Officers observed a shoe print on the bottom of the door and damage to the door.
Neither resident saw anyone in the area.
• Misty Hoffman, 301 W. Sandusky Ave., reported Friday morning she found her station wagon’s rear driver’s side tire slashed several time.
Woman admits hitting husband with purse
Paula D. Kindle, 60, of 533 Washington Ave., was charged Thursday with domestic violence.
She admitted to throwing a small purse at her husband, Clifford, during a heated argument. The purse struck the victim in the forehead.
He filed a complaint after the 1:30 p.m. incident but later told officers he wanted to drop the complaint. He was referred to the Bellefontaine Municipal Prosecutor’s office.
Resident claims contractor stole money
Matthew E. Newlon, 629 S. Madriver St., reported Saturday he had paid cash to a named male suspect for construction work at Newlon’s house. The work has not been completed, he told police, and he has been unable reach the suspect.
