A motorist that reportedly damaged the Midway Marathon gas station along U.S. Route 33 between Russells Point and Lakeview was charged with drunk driving.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department were dispatched to the gas station at 8758 Township Road 239, Lakeview, around 5:50 p.m. Friday on a report of a vehicle that ran into the building. Officers were given a description of the vehicle and continued to patrol the area.
The driver, Michael Grindell, 55, of West Mansfield, was identified just before 8 p.m. in the area of the gas station.
Upon making contact with Grindell, he advised that the trailer he was towing did not have brakes causing him to run into the side of the building, which caused damage to the icemaker and propane tank holder.
Officers observed an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Grindell, and the suspect was unsteady on his feet. Grindell attempted field sobriety tests and failed.
He was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail where he refused to submit to a breath sample and was charged with OVI. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
• Bradley Clem, 34, of 8889 Madison Ave., Russells Point, was charged with menacing and violating a protection order following an altercation that occurred around 4 p.m. Friday with his children’s grandfather.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department were dispatched to a residence owned by Tim Fedele, of 9028 Park St. Fedele told officers he was babysitting his grandchildren when the suspect showed up at the residence and attempted to coax on of the children into his vehicle.
A civil protection order had been granted against Clem, but he refused to leave the property at the request of the homeowner, and reportedly engaged in a verbal confrontation with Fedele and allegedly threaten to cause bodily harm.
Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers of the Russells Point Police Department assisted in getting Clem into custody and he was lodged in the Logan County Jail
