Timothy E. Ray, 54, of West Mansfield, was flown by MedFlight helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment of serious injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash early Saturday morning.
Monday morning, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a report that Ray was in stable condition and had been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital to a step-down unit.
Deputies report Ray was operating a northbound motorcycle just after midnight on State Route 292 just north of County Road 26 when he drove left of center and off the left side of the road into the ditch, striking a utility pole. Upon impact, Ray was thrown from the motorcycle, and he was not wearing his helmet, deputies said.
Deputies on the scene observed that Ray had sustained a large laceration to his forehead and applied pressure to his head wounds while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive.
Bokescreek EMS arrived at the scene and began treating Ray. An EMS member observed an odor of alcohol on Ray’s breath, and deputies have submitted a request for medical records from Grant Medical Center in attempt to confirm suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Damage was heavy to the motorcycle, which was towed from the scene.
