MOSBARGER |
Bellefontaine High School product Daulton Mosbarger made his first collegiate start on the mound for the Ohio State baseball team in Wednesday’s home game against Morehead State.
The Buckeyes won the game 7-3.
Mosbarger did not get the win, but he did turn in a solid 4 1/3 innings of work. The lefty allowed four hits, two earned runs, walked two and struck out one.
Kyle Michalik followed Mosbarger to the mound and earned the win with 3 2/3 innings of work.
“To get four-plus innings from Daulton was huge for us and Michalik with 3 2/3 innings was just what we needed,” said OSU head coach Greg Beals. “Those are guys that haven’t gotten the ball from us as regularly. It speaks to the depth of our pitching staff and it speaks to their competitiveness and their ability to stay ready for the opportunity.”
Mosbarger is a senior for the Buckeyes. He played three seasons at the University of Akron before it folded the baseball program there.
Prior to Wednesday, Mosbarger had performed in relief duty on the mound. He has now appeared in seven games. He has a 1-0 record with a team-best 1.80 ERA in 15 innings. Opponents are hitting just .212 against him.
Ohio State is currently 21-11-1 overall and 2-4 in the Big 10.
