Modern Woodmen of America in Bellefontaine recently helped to raise money for the Bellefontaine Police Department’s K9 unit with a special fundraising event Aug. 20 during the BPD’s annual Community Safety Event.
A chicken dinner fundraiser raised a total of $8,428 for the K9 Unit. This total includes $4,214 from the Modern Woodmen in matching funds donated by the organization.
The funds will be used for ongoing expenses for the K9 unit.
This is the second year that the Modern Woodmen have matched funds made through the K9 chicken dinner, K9 Officer Jerrod Hostetler notes.
The Matching Fund Program offers Modern Woodmen members nationwide the chance to show their support for a community cause, organization or individual in need through fundraisers. These fundraising projects contribute more than $10 million to community needs around the country each year.
“The community truly came together to support a local need,” said Sharon Alexander, local Modern Woodmen volunteer leader. “This is what support is all about.”
