In a regular meeting Tuesday of the Huntsville Village Council an ordinance was passed authorizing the solicitor to advertise for public auction approximately 5.044 acres that will be sold off in conjunction with the village’s acquisition of an approximately 5.72 acre tract of land that’s part of the same property at 4601 Napoleon St.
It’s the site of the former school in the building, that became the former Indian Lake Elementary School that was vacant.
The public auction is required to be advertised at least once per week over five weeks. The auction likely will occur at the village building, solicitor Matt Chamberlain said.
Bidding will start with the minimum bid of $45,000. The mayor has the right to review and/or reject any bid in the event of unforeseen circumstances, the solicitor said.
The village’s acquisition of its portion of the property is contingent upon a successful public auction of the other tract of land.
The 5.72 acres that’s to be retained by the village must be utilized for community and public use for at least 10 years. No such stipulations for public use are tied to the auction property and it may be used for any purpose consistent with local zoning restrictions, according to previous action taken by council.
The next regular Huntsville council meeting is Feb. 23.
