Shaylene M. Hanson, 35, of Billings, Mont., was charged Sunday with felony possession of methamphetamine after a 5:35 p.m. traffic stop in the parking lot of Walmart, 2281 S. Main St.
A deputy of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office was behind Hanson on Main Street when he noticed her vehicle’s registration was expired. He initiated a traffic stop after she turned eastbound on Gunntown Road. Hanson then drove into the parking lot.
She claimed her sport utility vehicle was currently registered in Montana and she had driving privileges through that state. She was unable to provide documentation.
She was instructed to exit the SUV and the deputy noted she was acting nervous inside and outside the SUV, requesting multiple times to make phone calls. She consented to a search of the vehicle, claiming there was nothing illegal inside.
Small plastic baggie with white crystal residue was found in a change holder near the steering wheel. A mobile test indicated the residue was methamphetamine.
In the open cargo area behind the rear seats, the deputy found a pink wallet containing credit cards in Hanson’s name and sandwich baggie containing more white crystal substance.
She was taken into custody and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
