Driver Taylor David Pinks, 28, of Ada, and his passenger Shaylyn Richardson, 36, of Kenton, each were charged with trafficking in drugs, possession of drug abuse instruments and felony possession of drugs during a traffic stop Friday afternoon.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department on patrol in the area of State Route 235 near County Road 91 observed a suspicious vehicle traveling the roadway.
Officers initiated a traffic stop and learned that Pinks was not a valid driver and that both defendants were wanted on multiple warrants.
While officers were placing Pinks under arrest on the outstanding warrants, he advised officers he had a hypodermic needle inside his pants pocket. Officers recovered the hypodermic needle, which was contained in a clear plastic bag with a white residue inside.
When asked what the white substance was, Pinks informed officers it was pure fentanyl and said he had he used it earlier in the day.
Richardson was ordered to exit the vehicle and when asked if she had anything illegal on her person, she initially denied having any illegal substances.
However, she was advised she was under arrest on the outstanding warrants and informed that she would be processed with the body scanner at the jail. Then she advised officers that she had a large plastic tube concealed in a body cavity. Officers later learned that the plastic tube contained separate individual amounts of 2.18 grams and 1.35 grams of pure fentanyl.
Officers continued their search of the vehicle and located several hypodermic needles and a black case that contained an additional 2.69 grams of fentanyl as well as 3.85 grams of methamphetamine. Officers also discovered a digital scale and marijuana inside the vehicle.
Both Pinks and Richardson were arrested and transported to the Logan County Jail.
Pinks also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and was cited for driving without a license, noncompliance suspension, and failure to reinstate. Richardson also was charged with tampering with evidence.
A criminal history check was done on both subjects and both were found to have prior drug convictions, officers said.
