Maxine A. Barger, 80, of West Liberty, went home on Thursday, April 7, 2016, in her residence, to join her beloved husband, Thomas, who passed away in 2002.
She was born on April 22, 1935, in Urbana, a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Connelly Brake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; brother, Joseph; sisters, Mary Colbert, Betty Brake and an infant sister; and brother-in-law, Richard Colbert.
Survivors include her children, Thomas Barger, Ann Margaret Barger, Michael (Regina) Barger, Kathryn (Chester) Quinn and Paul (Cathryn) Barger; grandchildren, Brandilyn, Jacob, Jared, Charles, Kyle, Mitchell, Luke and Eden; great-grandchildren, Parker, Peyton and Preston; sister-in-law, Nancy Hoffman; and numerous cousins and extended family members.
A graduate of St. Mary High School, Maxine was very dedicated to and involved with St. Mary Catholic Church in Urbana and had been a CCD teacher there.
She married her husband, Thomas, on July 11, 1964, and enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom. She was very caring and gentle and a true caregiver, loved to read and write and was known for her baking.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, in the Walter & Stowe Funeral Home, Urbana, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church, 231 Washington Ave., Urbana, with Father Matt Lee, Celebrant. Entombment is in Oak Dale Cemetery’s Shepherd Mausoleum, Urbana.
