ILHS science instructor Blythe Moorhouse helps students Nate Warniment and Michelle Grider this week as they inspect and dissect a sheep heart as part of the anatomy and physiology class’ in-depth study of the cardiovascular system just prior to Valentine’s Day. Ms. Moorhouse said it is students’ chance to learn the external and internal anatomy of the heart by getting to touch, turn it over and look inside. “They like it because they can see where all the veins and arteries are going,” she explained. They were also given the task of tracing the path that blood takes as it travels through, from beginning to end. The anatomy and physiology course is one of several College Credit Plus classes offered at ILHS in which students can earn college credit by taking advanced subjects in high school.
