Applications are now being accepted for the 2022 Mary Rutan Foundation Community Wellness Grant program.
The purpose of the grant program is to foster overall community participation in the promotion and support of a healthier Logan County, by addressing areas of risk and need in the community.
Applications and all required documentation must be submitted by midnight on Oct. 7.
During the county’s most recent Community Needs Assessment in 2020, mental health was identified as the highest priority of health risk and need. Over the past five years, the number of adults attempting suicide has nearly doubled from 129 to 243. In addition, through the Signs of Suicide screening administered to Logan County students, 21 percent of combined eighth-, 10th- and 12th-graders indicated having attempted suicide one or more times.
To address these alarming statistics, mental health was selected as the focus area for the 2022 Mary Rutan Foundation grant cycle. Priority will be given to programs and initiatives targeting youth.
“Mary Rutan Foundation is committed to the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” states Tammy Allison, foundation chief operating officer.
“We believe that we can be most successful through a collaborative community effort in our initiatives to address these mental health concerns. We invite area schools, churches and not-for-profit agencies and organizations to join us in our pursuit for a healthier Logan County.”
All applicants must be a registered 501c3 organization or area school or church and cannot be a private foundation.
In addition, applicants must be based in Logan County. Grant requests may range from $500 to $10,000.
Online application submission is required and may be obtained on the Mary Rutan Hospital website at https://www.maryrutan.org/forms/community-wellness-grant-application/.
The Mary Rutan Foundation Community Wellness Grant program began in 2014. Since then, nearly $300,000 has been awarded to community partners addressing health and wellness needs identified in Logan County.
Several of these programs continue in our community today, sustained through new partnerships and funding resources.
