A city man, who allegedly threatened officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department during a Saturday phone call to dispatchers, was arrested Sunday on a probation violation.
Anthony T. Johnson, 36, of 629 N. Main St., was located around 6:30 p.m. outside 441 E. Chillicothe Ave. after police dispatchers used cellular phone tower information to track his cellular phone.
He was spotted walking away from a gathering of people in the rear yard when three officers approached the residence.
A bag of marijuana and $1,815 was recovered from him after a search.
In addition to the probation violation, he was charged with possession of marijuana.
Officers began looking for Johnson after he called the department at 9:49 a.m. threatening officers over an unspecified incident on Saturday.
His statement was recorded and saved as evidence.
Chief Brandon Standley confirmed that the threat was related to the in-custody death of Kevin L. Duncan, 38, of Springfield.
The case has been referred to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of felony charges.
Motorist cited in crashes
Carson S. McCain, 18, of Belle Center, was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield while turning left after an 8:30 p.m. two-vehicle crash Monday at Main Street and Sandusky Avenue.
Officers report he turned a car left from the southbound turn lane into the path of northbound sport utility vehicle operated by Virginia L. Evans, 55, of Bellefontaine.
Damage was heavy to both vehicles but there were no reported injuries.
• Jeffrey M. Wisler, 55, of Fairborn, was cited for a marked lanes violation after his southbound pickup truck sideswiped a pickup stopped to turn left on Main Street at Allen Road around 5:30 p.m. Monday.
He was stopped by deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office in West Liberty and they learned Wisler was having a medical issue due to his diabetes, police report. He was treated at the scene of the stop and advised to return to Bellefontaine.
The other pickup was operated by Drew A. Guyton-Buroker, 21, of Bellefontaine. He told officers he was in the intersection waiting for traffic to clear when Wisler also entered the intersection, stopped briefly and then accelerated southbound leading to the collision.
Damage was light.
• Justice Leann LeMaster, 21, of Bellefontaine, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead after a two-vehicle crash around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of east Sandusky Avenue.
She was operating an eastbound van which his the rear of a car operated by Wesley D. Bach, 33, of Bellefontaine, who was slowing down for traffic ahead.
Damage was light.
