Jared V. Collins, 43, of Van Wert, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon in a motor vehicle related to an incident about 2:40 p.m. Saturday.
A deputy patrol in the 10000 block of State Route 117 observed Collins’ vehicle pull over, and deputies stopped to check on the occupants.
The driver, Collins, stated that he observed the deputy’s cruiser behind him and wanted to pull over “to get out of the way.” Deputies talked with him and two other male occupants, who said they were headed home after being in Southern Ohio.
Deputies inquired whether there were any illegal items in the vehicle, Collins informed deputies that he had a pistol in the vehicle. He stated he was unsure whether the firearm was loaded, but said there were loaded magazines above by the sunroof.
Deputies located the pistol, which was unloaded, and also located a loaded magazine directly below the firearm, and a second magazine by the sunroof. In the glove box, deputies also located a pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue.
Collins was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail, where corrections staff also found four bullets in his pockets.
