Driver Dashawn R. Bonds, 20, of Columbus, was charged with trafficking in marijuana during a traffic stop Thursday evening on U.S. Route 33, where deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office reportedly seized 6.6 ounces of suspected marijuana and cash totaling $2,900.
His passenger, Sydnee Glaze, 19, of Columbus, also was issued a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputies on patrol in the area of U.S. 33 and State Route 292 about 8:10 p.m . stopped Bonds’ vehicle for a speed violation of 90 mph in a 70 mph zone. The registration information for the vehicle also came back to a Columbus woman with an active warrant for assault with a deadly weapon, deputies said.
While speaking with the occupants, deputies observed a marijuana pipe in between the passenger seat and center console of the vehicle and asked Bonds and Glaze to step out of the vehicle. During a pat down search, deputies found a large amount of cash in Bonds’ pockets.
Deputies conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and recovered the 6.6 ounces of suspected marijuana, a digital scale and a number of clear plastic baggies. They also seized a bag that contained a substantial amount of cash.
Deputies said Bonds provided various explanations regarding the large amount of cash he had with him. He was placed under arrest and lodged in the Logan County Jail. Glaze was issued the summons and released.
Crash leads to OVI charge
Cole R. Houser, 21, of Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a non-injury crash about 1:55 a.m. Sunday.
Deputies report he was operating a southbound 2007 BMS 228i in the 7400 block of County Road 277 when he stated he received a phone call and looked down at his phone. He then ran off the right side of the road, striking a guardrail. His vehicle reportedly went through the guardrail and landed on its side in a ravine.
Damage was heavy to his car, which was towed from the scene.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies located Houser standing in a nearby yard at 7449 C.R. 277. While speaking with him, deputies observed that he displayed signs of intoxication. He reportedly told deputies he had consumed about six beers that evening and submitted to field sobriety tests.
He was transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department for a breath test, with a result of 0.177 blood alcohol content. Houser also was cited for failure to control and distracted driving. He was released to a sober party.
Driver transported from S.R. 292 crash
Metea Duncan, 16, of Ostrander, was transported by Perry Township EMS to Memorial Hospital in Union County for treatment of possible injuries sustained in a crash Friday afternoon.
Deputies report she was operating a northbound 2011 Ford Edge about 4:15 p.m. on State Route 292 near Township Road 141 when she traveled off the right side of the road. Her vehicle continued northbound and struck a pump house and a fence, coming to rest facing west in a field.
Damage was heavy to her vehicle, which was towed from the scene. The driver was wearing her seat belt and was cited for failure to control.
