Donald E. Hicks, 40, of 16098 State Route 235, lot 33, Belle Center, was charged with domestic violence as a result of an incident Saturday evening.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 11:35 p.m. to 10652 Township Road 71, Quincy, after receiving a report from his girlfriend.
She told deputies that the couple had been at a friend’s house and that they were going to leave and head home. She told Hicks she was going to drive home, and he told her to get out of the driver’s seat and allegedly slapped her on the right side of the face. His girlfriend said he then grabbed her by her sweatshirt and began squeezing it on her neck.
Deputies said her right cheek appeared to be slightly swollen.
His girlfriend reported Hicks had left the residence on foot and said he was intoxicated.
Deputies located him walking along T.R. 71 nearby the residence and observed that he was unsteady on his feet. He denied striking his girlfriend. He was placed under arrest and was lodged in the jail.
Drunk driver charged after S.R. 235 crash
Katelynn I. Pownell, 21, of Lima, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs as a result of a crash Sunday evening in the 12900 block of north State Route 235.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report she was operating a southbound car on S.R. 235 about 9 p.m. when she drove off the right side of the road and struck a Dayton Power & Light utility pole. The pole was not damaged in the crash. Damage was heavy to the car, which was towed from the scene.
When deputies arrived, they met with a Ohio Department of Natural Resources officer on the scene, who said he had noticed that the driver displayed signs of intoxication.
Pownell would not answer deputies when they questioned her regarding consuming alcohol. They observed that she was unsteady on her feet and an odor of alcoholic beverage on her person.
She submitted to field sobriety tests and she also was evaluated by Indian Lake EMS at the scene. Deputies said during the process, the defendant began yelling and cursing at EMS personnel.
She was transported to the Logan County Jail, where she refused to take a chemical breath test. She also was cited for open container in a motor vehicle and failure to control.
Teen charged with falsification
Kyle A. Jones, 17, of 8937 Maple, Lakeview was charged with falsification Sunday after deputies first responded to his friend’s residence, 400 Lincoln Blvd., Apt. 54, Russells Point, to take a domestic violence report from the teen.
Kyle initially told deputies that he had been assaulted by his father. However as deputies investigated the case and also spoke with his father, Kyle eventually admitted that his father had not punched or slapped him as he first stated, but that he instead had poked Kyle in the chest during an argument about doing dishes.
Kyle’s father told deputies that the teen had punched holes in the walls of his bedroom and also a bathroom. Kyle admitted to causing the damage, along with throwing a knife against the wall.
The teen was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for evaluation. Logan County Children’s Services also was notified about the incident.
