Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a serious injury accident that occurred Thursday evening, where alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash.
The driver, James L. Neer, 70, of Jackson Center, was flown by MedFlight helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment of serious injuries sustained in the crash about 7:50 p.m.
Deputies report he was operating an eastbound sport utility vehicle in the 2600 block of State Route 274 when he traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected and began to spin out.
The SUV then crossed both lanes of travel and went off the left side of the road, striking a ditch and overturning into a field. His vehicle came to a final rest on its top in the field.
Deputies said they smelled a heavy odor of alcohol on Neer and they also observed a number of beer cans throughout the vehicle. He advised deputies that he had consumed two beers prior to the crash.
Deputies have sent a subpoena for Neer’s medical records to determine his blood alcohol level at the time of the crash.
Woman lodged for domestic violence
Jessica L. Spurlock, 32, of 125 W. Brown Ave., Bellefontaine, was charged with domestic violence related to an incident Thursday at 105 E. Buckeye St., Belle Center.
Deputies were dispatched to the address about 10:20 p.m. and spoke with the reporting party, Marie Rivers, 61, Spurlock’s boyfriend’s mother, who was sitting on the front porch of the residence. She told deputies an argument had ensued between her and Spurlock that escalated, with the defendant allegedly charging at her and pushing her to the floor. Rivers showed deputies a bruise she had sustained.
Spurlock told deputies that Rivers had gotten in her face, so she pushed Rivers. She was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
