Randy Gordon, 34, of Zanesfield, was flown by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton for treatment of injuries sustained in a crash Sunday evening involving entrapment.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, along with West Liberty Fire Department and Macochee Joint Ambulance District, responded about 5:35 p.m. to the 3100 block of County Road 1 in reference a single vehicle rollover crash.
Deputies report Gordon was operating a northbound sport utility vehicle at an estimated speed of 95.4 miles per hour when he went off the right side of the roadway. When deputies arrived at the scene, they said the vehicle was located a bean field approximately 450 feet off the roadway on its side.
The driver, who was wearing his seat belt, was partially ejected from the vehicle. Fire personnel extricated Gordon from the SUV by mechanical means.
Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash. No citations have yet been issued, pending follow-up with the driver after his release from the hospital, deputies said.
• Nathaniel M. Clark, age unavailable, of West Mansfield was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a four-vehicle crash Sunday in a construction zone along U.S. Route 33.
Two other drivers, Scott Medley, age unavailable, was transported by Indian Lake EMS to Lima Memorial Hospital, and Derek Backus, available unavailable, of Huntsville, was transported by Huntsville EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital with minor injuries.
Deputies, along with Indian Joint Fire District and EMS personnel, were dispatched to the area of U.S. 33 near Township Road 94.
Clark reportedly was operating an eastbound pickup on U.S. 33. He failed to maintain assured clear distance ahead and struck the rear of an eastbound car operated by Medley. The collision pushed Medley’s vehicle into an eastbound SUV driven by Backus.
The SUV then struck the rear of a boat being pulled by a fourth vehicle operated by James A. McBain III of Hillard.
McBain had three passengers, wife, Dawn McBain and two young children. They were not transported from the scene.
Clark admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages and refused to submit to standardized field sobriety test. He submitted to a urine test and results are pending.
Clark also was issued citations for failure to maintain assure clear distance ahead, driving under OMVI suspension, no seat belt and possession of marijuana. Clark was released to a family member.
• Deputies also responded about 3:40 p.m. Saturday to a two-vehicle non-injury crash in front of Winner’s Market, 13840 N. State Route 235.
Eileen Alexander of Troy reportedly was attempting to leave the parking lot in her SUV when she struck a northbound vehicle on S.R. 235 operated by Robert Gloeckner of Columbus.
Alexander stated that the sun was in her eyes and she did not see Gloeckner’s vehicle. She was cited for failure to yield. All occupants were wearing their seat belts.
