Joshua E. Persinger, 32, at large, was charged with assault Tuesday after he attacked his ex-girlfriend as she worked at Wal-Mart, 2281 S. Main St., around 7:30 p.m.
Irene M. Roark of Bellefontaine told officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department he came in demanding a key to her apartment and she refused him. He grabbed her by the hood of her sweatshirt and jerked her backward before striking her in the face.
He was found around 9:30 p.m. hiding under a pile of clothing inside a Blair Avenue residence, arrested and was taken to jail.

• Joel L. Egler, 33, of 208 S. Madriver St., was picked up Tuesday on a probation violation.
• Charles E. Miranda, 54, and Jessica R. Hammer, 27, both of 8573 State Route 366, Apt. 17, Lewistown, each was served Tuesday with a summons for criminal trespassing and theft.
Motorist cited after hit-and-run crash
Clinton D. Short, 29, of 291 S. Sandusky St., Rushsylvania, was cited for failure to control, driving under suspension and leaving the scene of a crash after a hit-and-run crash around 9:30 p.m. Friday.
He was driving a northbound car that struck a car registered to Ashley L. Doak of Anna parked in the 200 block of south Main Street.
According to police reports, he was located by Hardin County Sheriff’s deputies in Kenton shortly after 10 p.m. at a gas station and was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
He had a blood alcohol content level of 0.186, more than twice the legal limit.
He claimed he was not drunk at the time of the Bellefontaine crash, stating he drank four beers and several shots of liquor at a relative’s house after the crash and before driving to Kenton.
Officers here do not believe he had enough time between the crash and his arrest.
• Kelsey L. Runkle, 23, of 691 N. Troy Road, was cited Tuesday for driving under suspension and charged with possession of marijuana paraphernalia after a 4 p.m. traffic stop.
Empty bags with marijuana residue, rolling papers and a pipe were found in the vehicle.
