Walter Brightwell, 26, of Fort Wayne, Ind., was charged with a felony count of resisting arrest after he allegedly brandished a folding knife while deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve him with a warrant Wednesday.
Deputies responded about 12:30 p.m. to 335 Byers St., Lakeview, on a report of Brightwell being at the residence. Deputies were informed that he had an active warrant that was extraditable through the Indiana Department of Corrections for a parole violation.
When deputies arrived at the residence, Brightwell began walking away from deputies, and then after he had walked about 20 feet, turned to face deputies.
A woman at the residence informed deputies that the defendant had a knife. Brightwell then allegedly opened the folding knife and continued walking around with it, despite deputies’ verbal commands for him to put down the knife. A deputy drew his pistol and followed Brightwell at a distance.
The defendant eventually followed commands to throw the knife into a driveway so that deputies could retrieve it. He was placed under arrest and became belligerent with deputies. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
