Travis L. VanVoorhis, 27, of 229 2nd St., Unit A, Russells Point, was charged with burglary related to an incident early Saturday morning.
Deputies responded about 2 a.m. a neighboring residence on 2nd Street, Russells Point, on a report from a female resident of a burglary in progress.
The resident said her neighbor, VanVoorhis, also the son of her landlord, was beating on her door and screaming loudly.
While the resident was on the phone with dispatchers, she told them that he while he was pounding on the front door, the door came open and he closed it.
He then reportedly began beating on the back door and gained entry into the residence. The resident told dispatchers she gathered her children into a bedroom and locked the bedroom door for their safety.
When deputies arrived, VanVoorhis was outside of the home and he showed signs of intoxication, deputies said. The defendant stated he went to his neighbor’s house because “his father told him to make her leave the house” and that “she was evicted.”
Deputies noted that both entry doors were damaged in the incident.
VanVoorhis was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail. A report has been sent to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office for review of additional charges, including aggravated trespass and criminal damaging.
Teen transported from rollover crash
Gracie M. Fry, 17, of Quincy, was transported by Riverside EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries sustained in a crash Friday afternoon.
Deputies report she was operating an eastbound 2007 Honda Ridgeline on County Road 70 near County Road 4 about 3:15 p.m. when she drove off the right side of the road and overcorrected, going left of center and off the left side of the road.
Deputies said Gracie overcorrected a second time and the pickup went off the right side of the road again and overturning twice, coming to a rest on its top. Damage was heavy to the pickup, which was towed from the scene.
The driver was cited for failure to control. She was wearing her seat belt.
• Drivers Ruth E. Meade, 55, of Grove City, and Larry J. Hurley, 52, of Zanesfield, each were checked at the scene of a crash Friday morning by Tri-Valley EMS personnel, but they did not report any injuries.
Deputies report Meade was operating a westbound 2017 Nissan Pathfinder on County Road 10 near U.S. Route 33 about 11:50 a.m. when she attempted to make a left turn onto the U.S. 33 entrance ramp. Hurley was operating a westbound 2003 Honda Element behind her and began to pass her vehicle on the left side, striking the driver’s side of her vehicle.
Damage was heavy to both vehicles, which were towed from the scene. Hurley was cited for improper passing. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
• Riley J. Blankenship, 20, of Swanton, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead relating to a crash Saturday afternoon at state routes 117 and 366.
Deputies said Denise D. Martin, 49, of Lakeview, was operating a northbound car on S.R. 117 about 1:10 p.m. and attempted to make a left turn onto S.R. 366.
Blakenship reportedly was operating a northbound 2015 Ford Edge and went left of center in attempt to go around the Martin vehicle, not realizing she was attempting to turn. His vehicle struck the driver’s side of the Martin vehicle.
The Ford Edge continued off the left side of the road and drove through a corn field. Deputies said the owner of the corn field did not wish for compensation for the damages. The drivers were wearing their seat belts and damage was light to both vehicles.
