A Marion man was taken into custody Tuesday after he led officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department on a high-speed chase.
Brayzin A. McDaniel, 20, was charged with felony fleeing and eluding after he finally stopped on a gravel lane off of County Road 118 shortly before 4 p.m.
Officers were aware the suspect had fled deputies of the Union County Sheriff’s Office westbound on U.S. Route 33 and exited onto State Route 540 around 3:25 p.m. He was able to elude deputies who then notified area law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for McDaniel’s sport utility vehicle.
He was soon spotted on Eastern Avenue and Hayes Street. He fled northbound at a high rate of speed and made his way to U.S. Route 68. The chase continued eastbound on County Road 37; south on County Road 25; north on County Road 9; and eastbound on C.R. 118 to a gravel.
McDaniel stopped the SUV, got out and laid prone on the ground as officers exited their cruisers. He was taken into custody without incident.
Speeds during the chase exceed 100 mph, officers report, and McDaniel reportedly laughed about the incident after he was taken into custody.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Drug charge filed after man found unconscious
William C. Blair, 49, of 612 Oakwood Drive, was arrested Wednesday for felony possession of drugs.
Officers were called to the residence around 12:20 a.m. by his mother who could not get into a bathroom where the defendant was lying unconscious.
The door was cracked to the bathroom but the defendant’s position on the floor made it difficult to open for entry. An officer was able to wedge himself through the doorway and rouse Blair.
Blair had difficulty remaining conscious and was taken into custody. A Bellefontaine squad transported him to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of a suspected drug overdose. He was later medically cleared and lodged in jail.
Blair’s mother, who owns the house, gave officers permission to search her son’s basement bedroom.
Paraphernalia associated with cocaine and methamphetamine abuse was located and seized along with a few pills and powder residue on a weight scale and an open plastic baggie.
