The director with the outdoor drama for the Logan Hills Festival that takes place Memorial Day weekend reported this week that the organization is seeking additional actors for their production this year.
Director Kathy Huey said no experience is needed for individuals to volunteer to take part in the production, and male actors ages 16 and older are especially needed this year.
The production, “The Edge of the Wilderness” follows characters Simon Kenton and Moluntha, the Chief of the Shawnee people, along with appearances by Blue Jacket and Tecumseh. It is staged each day of the Zanesfield area festival Saturday, May 29; Sunday, May 30; and Monday, May 31.
“We’re the longest-running all-volunteer cast to stage this type of production,” said Huey, who has been involved in the program for 35 years, serving as a director in recent years and also filling lead roles and side roles.
“It’s a family affair, with several of us having our children grow up here and being a part of it, too. It’s a lot of fun, and we look forward to it each year. Being outdoors in the natural setting is part of what makes it so special.”
Huey said “The Edge of the Wilderness”, written by one of the cast members, is one of four productions staged by the group. Each of the outdoor dramas brings local history to life for the audience, she related.
Rehearsals are currently conducted on Sunday afternoons, and additional rehearsal dates will be added closer to the festival.
