The judges of the Family Court Division of the Logan County Common Pleas Court announced this week that the court is still open and operating during this the COVID-19 challenges.
At the same time, steps are being taken for the well-being of the public and staff.
“Our court is practicing social distancing, meaning staying six feet apart from one another,” officials said in a press release. “Although it can be awkward, it is a basic and reasonable step to keep you healthy. Additional cleaning and disinfecting efforts are conducted daily.”
Security will screen the public and permit entry to those who have business to conduct, and also have been instructed to turn away anyone who presents with visible signs of illness or reports being sick.
Individuals with a measurable fever, cough, or shortness of breath should contact the court to see if they should appear.
Most importantly, the public should know that some court business may be able to be conducted online or by telephone, officials noted. Status conferences and pre-trials may be conducted by telephone, but this will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
“It is encouraged that the parties/public contact the court if they have concerns on whether a court proceeding is going forward,” Family Court officials said. “Applications for marriage licenses in probate court must be done in person and are currently for emergency basis only.
“The COVID-19 situation continues to change and evolve rapidly, and we ask for your flexibility and assistance during this time of adjustment. As we continue to serve you, we will remain vigilant for your safety and security.”
