The Logan County Fair’s annual two-day harness racing event will have a new home this year as the races have recently been moved to the Champaign County Fairgrounds according to a press release Wednesday from Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association.
The event was originally scheduled for July 13-14, but has been moved back a day and will now be July 15-16 in Urbana.
Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association vice president and Champaign County race superintendent Randy Leopard says Logan County officials were thinking of cancelling the races because of Covid-19 and a modified fair.
“They reached out to Lisa Schwartz of the Ohio Colt Racing Association to discuss the races and she asked if they would be open to letting another venue host,” said Leopard. “They agreed and Lisa came to us.”
The Logan County Fair and Champaign County Fair are both members of the Ohio Colt Racing Association.
“It took a lot of work to make this happen,” said Leopard. “Between both county’s fair boards, the state racing commission and the department of agriculture, we got it done. We had to change dates to accommodate another fair and make sure we could get officials for the races.”
Logan County Fair fans will be invited to attend the races at the Champaign County Fairgrounds. There are currently plans for a food tent, a beer and wine garden, a disc jockey to play music between races and wagering.
The Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association (OHHA) will live stream coverage of both days of racing in Urbana. Post time on July 15 is 6:30 p.m. and post time on July 16 at 1:00 p.m.
Replays of the races will be available on the Trot and Pace Marketing website, , following the completion of racing.
The Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association will be live streaming Ohio fair races throughout the summer. For a complete schedule go to.
