The Logan County Braves Special Olympics program is sending 22 athletes to this weekend’s Ohio State Summer Games at The Ohio State University in Columbus.
Competing in bowling for the Braves will be Adam Abshire, Diane Anderson, Marilyn Arnett, Junior Baker, Jenna Cavin, Frank Chatfield, Eric Easley, Tom Faulder, Ty Ferguson, Blake Green, Connie Harrington, Morgan Huffer, Joel Lange, John O’Rielley, Dennis Ross, Joe Vanvoorhis and Matt Wildermuth.
The group of Troy Barger, Shirley Knight, Jean Roberts, Mark Skaggs and Sara Stierhoff will take part in the track and field events.
This marks the 47th Special Olympics Ohio State Summer Games, a year-round training and competition program for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
The event, which begins Friday and runs through Sunday, features competition for more than 2,700 competitors from across the state. In addition to competing in 11 sports, athletes will also see movies and participate in a recreational clinic and the opening ceremonies at Jesse Owens Stadium.
Special Olympics Ohio serves more than 17,000 citizens with intellectual disabilities. The Special Olympics Ohio calendar includes eight state-level championships and more than 125 local and area events in 23 sports.
