Some local residents made the trip to Cleveland this week to be part of the 2016 Republican National Convention.
Here are the thoughts of Monica Stewart, who is a volunteer at the convention, and Ranae Lentz, a delegate for Ohio’s 12th Senate District.
Ms. Stewart drove some of the Ohio delegation from Columbus to Cleveland and helped with convention preparation work.
Upon arriving in Cleveland, the Ohio volunteers learned they were staying in the same hotel as law enforcement and National Guardsmen from across the nation.
“Despite some worries I had, I’m feeling pretty safe at the moment,” said Ms. Stewart. “They are absolutely everywhere.”
When she asked a group for a photograph, she said, “One of them hollered, ‘Huddle up boys.’ And they did.”
Ms. Stewart will have various assignments this week.
“Not sure what the week will hold, but it’s sure to be historic,” she said.
Ms. Lentz said in addition to a broad range of speakers on Day 1, she had a celebrity guest at her breakfast table.
