Connecting. Interacting. Networking. Passion. These words took center stage at the 2022 Logan County Career Expo, which was held at Indian Lake High School Thursday. With 104 businesses, industries and military representatives in attendance, members of the community had numerous chances to find their next ideal job.
As per usual, the main portion of the event, which opened at 8 a.m., focused on opportunities for the seven Logan County and Hardin County high schools that sent around 575 students through the expo. Each group had approximately 90 minutes to meet with recruiters.
“The turnout was fantastic,” Shawn McElroy, executive director at Midwest Regional Educational Service Center, said. “Students were polite and attentive.”
Erica Baer, who serves as director of student achievement at MRESC, appreciated the community support.
“It’s nice to see businesses come together around the opportunities they can make available to students,” she said.
The expo focused on the 3E initiative—employed, enlisted or enrolled, which seeks to assist young people in finding the E that fits their goals and passions. Karen Sorreles, youth development liaison with MRESC and co-organizer of the expo, mainly wants high school students to make the connections they need for post-graduation plans.
“Follow what you want to do for work, not what you’re expected to do,” Sorreles emphasized. “It needs to be your dream, not someone else’s.”
Besides year-round, full-time positions, several area attractions are on the lookout for seasonal employees, including Ohio Caverns, Piatt Castles and Camp Willson/YMCA.
Possibilities with these companies include tour guides, historical interpreters, counselors and swim instructors, along with several leadership positions.
