Logan County collected more than $534,000 in casino tax revenues last year, and local schools combined to receive some $350,000 in calendar year 2015, according to data from the Ohio Department of Taxation.
The county collected $133,349.54 in tax revenues for the period between July 1 and Sept. 30, and $134,629.54 between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31.
Casino tax receipts for the last half of the year were in line with recent trends. The county’s first two casino tax allocations combined for more than $266,000.
Local casino tax revenues collected from casinos in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Toledo are directed toward paying off a loan to cover the cost of rehabilitating the courthouse.
In all, Ohio’s 88 counties combined to receive approximately $100 million per year in casino tax receipts.
Individual school district allocations for the second half of last year included $61,772.31 to Bellefontaine City Schools; $42,741.83 to Benjamin Logan; $38, 342.31 to Indian Lake; $16,881.87 to Riverside; $16,088.94 to Ohio Hi Point Career Center; and $9,412.92 to West Liberty-Salem.
Local school district casino tax receipts were a combined $185,240.18 over the second half of 2015.
Statewide, casinos combined to generate about $65.5 million in adjusted gross revenue for the month of January. Last year, adjusted gross casino revenues eclipsed $812 million, according to the Ohio Department of Taxation.
Taxes imposed on that revenue are distributed to host cities, county governments and public and private school districts.
County distribution dates are quarterly, while school district allocations are in January and August.
Ohio charges a 33 percent tax on the adjusted gross gambling revenue. A total of 51 percent of those taxes are directed to local governments, and school districts share 34 percent of that tax revenue.
The balance of those taxes are distributed among host cities, the Casino Control Commission, Ohio State Racing Commission, the Law Enforcement Training Fund and Problem Gambling & Addictions Fund.
