The LeVan group picked up a pair of wins on the first of two nights of racing at the 2016 LCF.
Greg Bateson drove Banger L, a horse trained by Herb LeVan of Lewistown and owned by LeVan Stables of Woodstock, to a win (2:03 3/5) in a 2-year-old filly pace in the fifth race.
My Cati L, another LeVan horse, won the ninth race. Eric Tharps Jr. drove the horse to a winning time of 2:03 4/5 in a 3-year-old filly pace. That time was a new lifetime mark for the local horse. The performance paid $45.80 to those who betted on the horse to win.
The top driver of the opening night was Pierce Henry, who collected three victories.
Henry won with Gertie Jean in the second race, with Maria Grace in the sixth race and with A Crown For Lindy in the 11th and final race.
Another highlight came in the evening’s 10th race when Rompaway Beau won the Signature Series trot in a time of 2:01 3/5. Bateson was the winning driver for the horse trained by Krista Harmon of Jackson, Mich.
The fair’s harness racing program concludes tonight with an 11-race schedule. Post time is 6 p.m.
