Residents living near an unfinished pile of bricks at the corner of Oak and Stephenson streets in Lakeview may never learn why construction began on a new EMS building without officials first having secured all of the funding for the project.
Nor are those same residents any likelier to receive a satisfactory answer as to why construction of that same building continued for nearly two months before it was halted.
Following a regular meeting Wednesday of the Indian Lake EMS Joint Ambulance District, however, there does appear to be new momentum toward completing the project in the first quarter of this year.
Lakeview Mayor Ryan Shoffstall told the board he would support and encourage participation from the four local governments served by Indian Lake EMS to co-sign a bank loan to finance the balance of the cost to complete the project.
“Provided the EMS makes the payments on the loan, and can show that it has the money to make the payments, I can’t speak for the members of council, but as mayor I would support backing the EMS to secure the funding,” Mr. Shoffstall said.
“That building has to be completed.”
