Logan County’s two dispatching centers were able to save significant money on a required 911 system upgrade by partnering with the Sidney Police Department and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
“There’s been a lot of behind-the-scenes work on the part of all the agencies for more than two years to get to this point,” Bellefontaine Police Chief Brandon Standley said Thursday prior to the new system’s start up. “We’re anxiously anticipating getting the system up.
“This is an example of collaboration that saves money for all of the entities.”
Sgt. Ryan Furlong, who is the 911 coordinator for the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, said each law enforcement entity saved around $150,000 apiece on the start up costs.
“It was something we had to do,” he said, “because technical and equipment support had ended for the old system.”
