Lillian Mae (Blackburn) Hughes, 88, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 2:12 a.m., Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, at the Gulfside Hospice Center in Zephyrhills, Fla.
She was born in Bellefontaine on Feb. 4, 1931, the daughter of the late Donald H. and Ida A. (Bibb) Blackburn. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn “Sue” Spain in 1963.
On May 5, 1956, she married William E. Hughes and he preceded her in death on June 16, 2005.
She is survived by son, Don (Karen) Watkins of Bellefontaine; niece, JoEtta Spain of Bellefontaine; nephew, Jerry Spain of Dayton; special cousin, Holly Hefner of Bellefontaine; and several other cousins.
Lillian was a 1950 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, and then she went on to graduate from cosmetology school. She owned and operated Lillete’s Beauty Shop on north Detroit Street in Bellefontaine for a number of years. She later opened a ceramics shop in Belle Center, where she taught ceramic classes. She also enjoyed making jewelry and crocheting. After retirement, she split her time between Bellefontaine and Betmar Acres in Zephyrhills, Fla.
Pastor Bryan Meadows officiates a graveside service at noon, Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, in the gazebo of Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty.
