Bellefontaine High School orchestra members Morgan Brugler, Lauren Carter, Laney Mitchell, Nick Ricker and Connor Rose perform under the direction of Mark Wood, founding member of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, during the recent Ohio Music Educators Association Convention at the Hyatt Regency in Cincinnati. A recording artist, performer, producer, and Emmy winning composer, Wood is a Juilliard-trained performer who “electrified” the string establishment during the 1970s with his invention of the first solid body electric violin. He also a music education advocate and started his Electrify Your Strings program in 2001. The intensive rock-and-roll workshop for music education departments boosts students’ self-esteem and helps raise money for music education.
