Indian Lake’s cross country program hosted the 13th annual 5K on the Lake Saturday with 101 registered walkers and runners.
Maxwell Latshaw of Dublin was the overall male winner with a time of 16:02.8, while Jackson Center’s Alaina Mann was the overall female winner with a time of 20:28.6.
For many runners, this was the first time they had competed in an organized race. Event organizer and Indian Lake head cross country coach Justin Metzger was pleased with the turnout despite the coronavirus pandemic.
“Covid-19 did provide some challenges for planning the event, but I am excited that we are able to provide an opportunity for runners to racein person,” said Metzger. “There have not been many in person 5k’s over the last 4 months and many recreational runners are ready to get out there and race. Many of the high school runners from Indian Lake have not raced since last cross country season, so it will be a great chance for them to see how fast they can run.
“I love that we are able to provide opportunities and experiences for
kids and it is great to see that we have over 30 school aged runners
in the 5k this year.”
