The Tigers (22-3) battle Cincinnati Madeira (21-4) in a district championship game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Springfield High School.
“They are very athletic and they have a lot of weapons,” said West Liberty-Salem head coach Dennis McIntosh. “They have three players averaging in double figures. They have quality players inside and outside.”
Madeira is used to making long runs in the tournament. Last year, the Amazons were 25-0 before losing in the district final.
The Amazons are led in scoring by sophomore forward Mary Englert, who is scoring 18.4 points per game. She is also averaging 8.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest.
Sophomore guard Marin Cline is averaging 11.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per contest, while senior post Jamie Grob is contributing 8.7 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2 blocks per game.
Grob has signed to play Division I basketball at Wofford College.
“You can’t just focus on one player,” said McIntosh. “They have a lot of girls that can hurt you.
