Benjamin Logan’s varsity volleyball team opened the season in impressive fashion Saturday with an 18-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-23 win over host Lima Central Catholic.
Molly Vance and Jordan Sexstone powered the Raiders’ defense with 17 digs each and Vance also contributed eight kills.
Lynzee Cronkleton had 14 digs, 11 kills and 22 assists, Kylie Frazier recorded 16 assists and 10 kills, Ryelle Gibson tallied seven kills and three blocks, Lily Makin had six kills and Makenna LeVan tallied four blocks.
Ben Logan’s junior varsity “Black” team won over LCC 25-9, 25-12. Lauren Dixon led the Raiders with 21 service points, eight aces and 16 assists, Haleigh Brentlinger and Kyndal Cronkleton had four kills apiece, Brielle Moorhouse had three assists and two kills, Brooks Myers and Macy Matthews each had three kills and Georgia Bates added six digs.

WL-Salem outlasts BHS
West Liberty-Salem edged host Bellefontaine in five sets on Saturday in the season opener for both squads.
The Tigers won by scores of 24-26, 25-23, 15-25, 25-19 and 15-8.
Sparking WL-Salem was Michele Smith, who had 35 digs, 10 kills, was 20-22 serving with five aces and was 23-24 on serves received.
Gabby Williams and Bailey Poppe also had strong efforts for the Tigers. Williams notched 33 assists, 11 digs, four kills and was 21-21 serving with two aces, while Poppe registered 19 kills, 13 digs, two blocks and was 14-15 serving with one ace.
Also for the winners, Ally Gaver had 14 digs, was 24-24 serving with five aces and was 15-17 on serves received, Olivia Wilcox had 14 digs was 24-28 on serves received and had two assists, Naomi McGill was 10-11 serving with two digs and was 2-2 on serves received, Aleah Reed had two kills, three digs and two blocks, Chaley Wade recorded three kills, three digs and one block, Leah Rapp had two kills and two digs and Ali Gault added one kill and one dig.
Bellefontaine won the junior varsity match 25-13, 21-25, 25-21.
For the Tigers, Lexy Lee had nine kills, one block, nine digs and was 12-13 serving, Mallory Bostick had eight kills and four digs, Riley Schultz had four kills and two digs, Makenna Smith was 10-10 serving and had five digs and Izabella Meister tallied 19 assists, nine digs and was 13-14 serving.
Pirates bounce Bethel
Riverside’s varsity volleyball team rolled past Bethel 25-14, 25-8, 25-6 in the season opener Saturday.
Lauryn Sanford paced the Pirates with 10 assists, Allison Knight had 12 digs, Jenna Woods tallied eight blocks and nine kills and Jade Copas had eight kills.
In the junior varsity match, Riverside won 25-9, 25-7. For the Pirates, Rachel Knight had three kills, Trinity Notestine recorded seven assists and Macie Manahan recorded 17 points and 11 aces.
The Pirates are back in action Tuesday at Urbana.
Lakers fall to Wapak
Indian Lake’s varsity volleyball team was defeated by Wapakoneta 25-8, 25-18, 25-12 on Saturday in the season opener.
Allix Cotterman sparked the Lakers, going 18-20 on serves received and recording 14 digs. Gracie Taylor was 11-13 hitting with five kills and Kaylie Tussing was 10-11 on serves received.
Indian Lake’s junior varsity team was defeated 25-17, 26-24. Madison Brentlinger had nine kills and Megan Kimbler was 11-12 serving for the Lakers.
In the freshman match, Wapak won 25-15, 25-19. For the Lakers, Porscha Davis was 8-9 serving with two aces, was 27-28 setting and had three kills, Jalan Martin was 8-9 on serves received and Geona Spires was 6-7 on serves received.
Indian Lake returns to action tonight at Upper Scioto Valley.
