Benjamin Logan’ girls cross country team started off the season with an impressive performance at its own Early Bird Invitational on Tuesday.
The Raiders finished second out of eight teams.
Jonathan Alder won the meet with 27 points, the Raiders had 52 and North Union was third with 102.
Kettering Alter was fourth with 109 and Fairbanks took fifth with 129 points.
The race was shortened to two miles because of the heat.
Ben Logan was led by Georgia Bates, who finished second in a time of 13:13.1
Dani Widmark finished eighth for the Raiders in 14:24 and Estella Wenger was right behind in ninth (14:25.1).
Also for Ben Logan, Mylee Boysel was 18th (15:27.2), Malori Barnes was 19th (15:40.3), Brooklyn Horner finished 35th (16:36.5), Kendra Kennedy was 41st (17:06.9), Nora Elliott finished 50th (18:00.6), Allie Fay was 54th (18:23.5), Sarah Folk finished 57th (18:46.9), Libby Siefring was 58th (19:01.7), Hannah White finished 64th (21:11.3), McKenzee Roseburrough was 70th (22:56.3) and Shelby Watkins finished 75th (24:52.4).
Triad’s girls did not have enough runners to post a team score, but the Cardinals’ Shalyn Smiles ran a strong race with a seventh-place finish in 14:18.6. The Cardinals’ Abbey Overfield was 33rd (16:24.1).
Riverside’s Ava Klinger finished 56th (18:32.1) and Kylah Maddy was 59th (19:04.2).
Ben Logan boys finish fifth
Ben Logan’s boys team finished fifth out of 10 schools. The Raiders had 147 points.
Jonathan Alder won the meet with 35 points, Marion Harding was second with 87, Alter took third with 103 and Hardin Northern was fourth with 139.
Triad’s boys finished in eighth with 182 points.
Ben Logan’s top finisher was Eric Hughes in 10th (11:46.7).
Following Hughes for the Raiders were Andrew Hughes in 20th (12:22.1), Aaron Rhodes in 31st (13:15.5), Eli Rhodes was 38th (13:44.8), Gabe Mooney was 62nd (14:49.8), Devon Kimble finished 63rd (14:58.6).
Triad was led by Joe Ferguson in 16th (12:10.8). Wyatt Robison was 18th (12:12), Luke Ford was 43rd (14:12.2), Jacob Haser finished 55th (14:36.1) and Charlie Harrington was 76th (16:24.6).
Riverside saw Andrew Stroud finish in 79th (18:12.5) and Carter Kreglow finish in 81st (18:14.6).
