Riverside’s softball team made a late rally to beat visiting Hardin Northern 4-2 on Thursday and complete a sweep of the defending Northwest Central Conference champions.

The Pirates are now 10-1 overall and remain in first place in the NWCC standings at 5-0. The Polar Bears slip to 6-4 and are second in the league at 5-2. Riverside beat Hardin Northern 7-0 on Monday.
“Northern jumped on us early taking a two-run lead,” said RHS head coach Andy Phelps. “We finally got the bats going in the fifth inning.
“Helena Faulder came up huge with a single to score two runs. We only had four hits on the night, but they came at the right time.”
Hardin Northern led 2-0 after the second inning, but Riverside scored a run in the third inning to cut that lead to a 2-1 score.
The Pirates pulled ahead after scoring three runs in the fifth inning for a 4-2 lead. Riverside’s pitching and defense took care of Hardin Northern the rest of the game.
