KENTON — City of Kenton officials report a groundbreaking ceremony for the downtown water and sewer renovation project has been set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the southeast corner of south Main and Decatur streets.
This marks the beginning of construction to replace water and sewer lines in Kenton’s downtown from south Detroit Street bridge, north to Ohio Street. Construction is currently planned to continue through June of 2020.
The project was mandated by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency due to the condition of the existing water and sewer lines and to separate the storm and sanitary sewer lines. Work is being 75 percent funded through grants from the EPA and Ohio Public Works Commission
This is phase one of a larger planned project. The city has been working with the Historic Courthouse District organization and OHM Advisors on plans for additional improvements to infrastructure in the downtown area, which would follow completion of the water and sewer replacement phase.
City officials will be providing updates on the project, including affected streets and addresses through social media and local news outlets throughout the construction.
