Kenneth E. Shoffstall Sr., 85, of Lakeview, passed away Sunday morning, July 17, 2016, at Auglaize Acres, Wapakoneta.
Kenneth was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Clay Township, Auglaize County, to the late Howard and Cleo Lillard Shoffstall.
On Aug. 14, 1949, he married Mary Jane Tippie at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Santa Fe and she preceded him in death May 9, 2009. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and John; and a sister, Doris Frey.
He is survived by three sons, Robert (Betsy) Shoffstall, Timothy (Sheri) Shoffstall and Kenneth (Roxanna) Shoffstall Jr., all of Lakeview; two foster daughters, LeDema (Warren) Van Gundy of Wapakoneta and Mary Roby of Bellefontaine; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Teasha) Shoffstall of Lakeview, Rod Shoffstall of New Orleans, La., Jennifer (Robert) Watkins of Marion, Va., Dr. Sarah (Randy) Cone of Anchorage, Alaska, Kendra (Kevin) Engle of DeGraff, Jonathan (Rebecca) Shoffstall of Vandalia and Joel (Diana) Shoffstall of Morton, Ill.; seven great-grandchildren, Levi Godwin, Ella Shoffstall, Trenton Watkins, Simon Godwin, Kail Shoffstall, Hailey Watkins, Elizabeth Shoffstall, Thomas Cone, Katherine Cone and Julia Shoffstall; a brother-in-law, Jim Frey of Lima; and several nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was a 1948 graduate of Blume High School in Wapakoneta. He was a longtime member of Grace Chapel Christian Union Church in Santa Fe, where he served as Sunday School teacher and superintendent for several years. He was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Logan County Farm Bureau since 1949 and served as board president for five years. Kenneth was a former Stokes Township Trustee for 20 years. In his younger years, Kenneth played fast pitch softball in New Hampshire, Ohio. He also coached youth baseball for many years. His greatest enjoyment came from serving God, his community and being with his family, including watching as many of their activities as possible.
Pastor Scott Anderson conducts a funeral at 3 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Grace Chapel Christian Union Church. Burial is in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Gutman. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S Main St., Lakeview, and one hour prior to service Friday.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Grace Chapel Christian Union Church in Santa Fe.
