Kathleen Patricia “Pat” Brentlinger Chiles, 89, passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.
She was born in Lakeview, Ohio on June 24, 1933 to the late Mildred Brady and Percy Stanton Brentlinger.
As a teenager, Pat worked at Uncle Ben’s 5 & 10 in Lakeview, owned by family friends Bill and Nancy Wuenschel. She met the handsome Lawrence “Junior” Chiles and they were married June 30, 1951. Most of her early years, Pat was a farm wife and was known by several people as the “Egg Lady.” Most days, if Pat couldn’t be found anywhere on the farm, she was found in the basement cleaning, sanding, and weighing eggs to be sold all over Logan County.
In 1988, Pat decided to re-join the workforce and took a job at Ames in Bellefontaine, Ohio. After the closure of Ames, she moved on to J.C. Penney Company in Downtown Bellefontaine. She retired from the new location of J.C Penney’s after 20 plus years. Pat enjoyed spending time with her family, watching her great-grandchildren play ball, and appreciating the paintings and Indian Lake photographs created by her grandfather, John S. Brentlinger.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother Mary Brentlinger; her siblings Betty Brentlinger Makris, Percy “Bud” Stanton Brentlinger II, Lois Brentlinger Butler, and John H. Brentlinger; her loving husband Lawrence Clayton Chiles, Jr; and their son Jeffrey Chiles.
She is survived by her son James Chiles; grandchildren Roger Chiles, Tiffany (Allen) Stoner, Danielle (Troy) Jenkins; and great-grandchildren Kainan Stoner, Kyren Stoner, Alicia Jenkins, and Clayton Jenkins.
Per her request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Logan County Cancer Society in care of Mary Rutan Hospital.
