WL-Salem teams sweep Ohio Caverns Invite
West Liberty-Salem’s girls and boys junior high cross country teams led the area squads and swept the Max Evans Memorial Saturday at the Ohio Caverns. The Big Orange girls ran away with the team race after scoring 19 points and claiming four of the top five finishers. Bellefontaine was second with 94 points, Indian Lake took third with 116 points and Benjamin Logan was fourth with 119 points. Triad finished eighth with 192 points. WL-Salem won the boys 11-team race with 47 points, Kenton was runner-up with 61 points, Bellefontaine came in third with 114 points and Ben Logan finished fourth with 115 points. Indian Lake took sixth with 164 points and Triad was seventh with 173 points.
The Tiger girls had the first three finishers in Saturday’s race, which included Addie McAuley in first (11:49), Ashley Yoder in second (12:08) and Lily Smith in third (12:46). Other top finishes came from Claire Longshore in fifth (13:12), Taylor Kennedy in eighth (13:54) and Kerrigan Burgel in 12th (14:02).
Rounding out the team were Maddie Cole in 20th (14:36), Izzy Wygal in 23rd (14:48), Anna Cole in 24th (14:53), Anna Knox in 36th (15:20), Laney Craig in 69th (18:03), Jane Fullenkamp in 77th (18:45) and Nevaeh Lafollette in 88th (21:13). Joey LaRoche led the Tiger boys with a third-place finish (12:12), Troy Bradley was seventh (12:30), Asher Knox was 10th (12:40), Mason Barger was 13th (12:54), Quentin Rudolph was 14th (12:58), Leland Henry was 15th (12:58) and Lincoln Henderson was 21st (13:10). Also racing for WL-Salem were Jackson Steider in 36th (13:44), Jack Bahan in 37th (13:44), Gideon Cole in 56th (14:26), Sam Lauck in 57th (14:32), Clay McAuley in 58th (14:36), Isaiah Reminder in 61st (14:44), Max Rudolph in 74th (15:56) and Maxwell McCombs in 87th (17:48).
Bellefontaine’s girls had top finishes from Kailyn Newman in 11th (13:59), Ella Reier in 13th (14:02), Kaydin Lenhart in 21st (14:37), Brianne Sechrest in 26th (14:54), Mia DeLong in 31st (15:01) and Drew McComas in 35th (15:25).
Others in action were Carisse Comstock in 60th (17:06), Nora Thornton in 62nd (17:17), Miabelle Zayas-Colon in 65th (17:30), Lilly Hudson in 74th (18:35), Avery Hankins in 75th (18:39), Claire Grandstaff in 84th (20:00), Renee Thornhill in 90th (21:49) and Zoey Rister in 91st (22:17).
Tony Stewart led the Chieftain boys by winning his race out of 96 runners with a time of 11:38. Top 50 finishes for BMS came from Marco Martinez in 16th (13:02), Ollie Moreland in 23rd (13:17), Simon Kauffman in 40th (13:53) and Seth Taylor in 43rd (13:57). The rest of the Chieftains saw Xavier Sims in 55th (14:22), Alek Miller in 82nd (17:07), Nolan Core in 92nd (18:36), Wyatt Popp in 93rd (20:02) and Ryan Alexander in 95th (20:27). KaiLea Miller led Indian Lake in ninth (14:14), Chloe Sparks finished 16th (14:14), Kierra Saunders took 22nd (14:40) and Hannah Metzger came in 33rd (15:06).
The Lakers also had Cameron Finfrock in 49th (16:26), Annie Braig in 52nd (16:54), Ariel Brielmaier in 55th (17:00, Madison Burris in 63rd (17:18) and Maggie Reese in 79th (19:03). For the Laker boys, Grant McPherson was 11th (12:51), Brody Parsell was 21st (13:15), Dawson Finfrock was 23rd (13:19), Daniel Wahl was 59th (14:41) and Andrew Stroud was 70th (15:39). Ben Logan was led by Eric Hughes with a sixth-place finish. He was followed by teammates Jacob Roth in 18th, Evan Carpenter in 26th, Trevor Sclesky in 34th and Aaron Rhodes in 39th. Mylee Boysel led the Lady Raiders in 17th with other finishes from Estella Wenger in 19th, Nora Elliott in 27th, Madelyn Wagnild in 32nd and Cora Watson in 38th.
For Triad’s girls, Shalyn Smiles was 10th, Abbey Overfield was 37th, Ashlyn McCoy was 51st, Paige Davis was 61st, Katrina Penhorwood was 80th, Olivia Hall was 93rd and Samantha Law was 98th. Wyatt Robison highlighted the Cardinal boys by placing second, Justin Quintero came in 31st, Jacob Haser was a few spots back in 35th, Layne Blackburn took 62nd, Caleb Allinder took 69th, Luke Ford finished in 88th and Charlie Harrington rounded out the group in 89th.

Riverside falls to Jackson Center
Riverside’s junior high volleyball teams both fell to Jackson Center on Saturday in a non-league action. The Tigers won the eighth-grade match 25-10, 25-10 and took the seventh-grade contest 25-6, 25-8. For the Pirates’ eighth graders, Emma Saylor had two kills and six digs, Addison Holycross had two aces, Nora Hollinger had four digs, Avery Perk had one kill and two digs and Keianna Notestine added one ace and two digs. Riverside’s seventh-grade team saw Zoie Armbruster and Shasta Dunn each record two digs, while Brook Hunkler had one kill and one dig.
