WL-Salem dominates Champaign County meet
West Liberty-Salem’s boys and girls junior high track and field teams both won the Champaign County meet at home Thursday in commanding fashion over Urbana, Mechanicsburg, Graham and Triad.
The Tiger girls racked up 164 points to finish first, the Hillclimbers were second with 25 points, the Indians took third with 20 points and the Cardinals were fourth with 16 points. The Falcons did not attend the meet.
WL-Salem’s boys rolled to a first-place finish with 110.5 points. Urbana claimed the runner-up spot with 52 points, Mechanicsburg was third with 45.5 points and Triad finished fourth with 17 points.
Winning for the Tiger girls were Gracie Serna in the shot put (32-4) and the discus (97-8), Alex Burton in the 100 (13.3) and the 200 (28.3), Camrin Rice in the long jump (14-5) and the 100 hurdles (16.8), Kate Stapleton in the 800 (2:33) and the 1,600 (5:43), Gracie Estes in the 200 hurdles (31.4), Payton Umphries in the 400 (1:06), Megan Dillon in the pole vault (8-0), Savannah Weaver in the high jump (4-4), the 400 relay of Rice, Burton, Julia Ames and Caidryn Wade (54.6), the 800 relay of Estes, Dillon, Lydia Moell and Sophie Cole (1:57.9) and the 1,600 relay of Umphries, Weaver, Stapleton and Kaitlyn Michael (4:49).
