John R. Kerns, 80, of Lima, formerly of Bellefontaine, passed away at 11:11 a.m. July 13, 2016, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
John was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Logan County, to the late Ward and Clarice Miller Kerns. He married the former Mary Elizabeth Davidson, who preceded him in death Jan. 19, 2005.
He was a truck driver and worked for the City of Bellefontaine for 25 years.
Survivors include five sons, John Kerns Jr. of Missouri, Michael (Pauline) Kerns, Ryan (Annette) Kerns and Jerrod (Kelly) Kerns, all of Bellefontaine, and Mark (Kathy) Kerns of Belle Center; five daughters, Ellen (Joseph) Colon of Bellefontaine, Debbie (Pete) Fout of Kenton, Merri Beth (Donald) Rish of Coppers Cove, Texas, Deidra (Warren) Hodge of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Jill Kerns Cavinder of Huntsville; 26 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; a girlfriend, Carolyn Hefner of Lima; a brother, Joe Kerns of Bellefontaine; two sisters, Rosalie (Carl) Halub of Battle Creek, Mich., and Gloria (Ted Perry) Cromwell of Marimar, Fla.
He was preceded in death by two great-grandsons; three brothers, Glenn, Phil and James Kerns; and a sister, Marilyn Bowman.
Pastor Ray Headings officiates a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Huntsville Cemetery. A luncheon follows at the Bellefontaine First Church of God, 1000 E. Brown Ave.
