John Henry Deere, 55, of DeGraff, passed away at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at his home. He was born in Parkersburg, W.Va., on Oct. 17, 1960, to the late Ernest and Royal Odle Deere.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Ronda Collins and Glenda Hormell.
On Dec. 22, 1984, he married the former Cindy Whitsett in Urbana, and she survives, along with four children, Bradly (Darcie) Jenkins, Jacob (Kendra) Jenkins, Jacqualin Jenkins and Ben (Tina) Deere; 15 grandchildren, Kierra (fianceé Jacob Greene) Jenkins, Kaleb (fiancé Madison Idle) Jenkins, Lexus Warner, Isabel Warner, Elizabeth Deere, Malaina Jenkins, Ben Deere Jr., Hanah Jenkins, Joshua Deere, Reece Jenkins, Grady Jenkins, Noah Jenkins, Ava Jenkins, Carter Deere and Carson Deere; five siblings, Ron (Carol) Lynch, Vicki (Don) Hudson, Ric (Becky) Deere, Bobby (Lisa) Barnes and Wendell (Laverne) Barnes; and special friends, Joe “Poncho” Brown, Rusty Shafer and Mike Frazee.
An Eagle scout, he graduated from West Liberty-Salem High School in 1979. He continued his education at Urbana University where he earned his bachelor of science degree in 2001. John had worked as a quality control manager for the Chi-Vit Corporation in Urbana.
A memorial service begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, in the DeGraff United Methodist Church, 1839 S. County Road 24, DeGraff, through arrangements by Daring & Sanford Funearl Home in DeGraff.
